Network AMC checklist: what to ask for
Not every annual maintenance contract gives you real protection. Use this checklist to compare AMC proposals for your switches, routers, firewalls and wireless.
An AMC is only as good as what happens when something fails at 10 a.m. on a working day. Before you sign, make sure the contract spells out exactly which devices are covered, how quickly the vendor will respond, and how quickly service will be restored, not just when an engineer will call back.
For mixed or older networks, ask specifically about end-of-life equipment. Many vendors exclude EOL/EOS devices or charge extra for them, which is exactly the hardware most likely to fail. A good AMC partner holds spares for your models and can repair units rather than waiting for OEM replacements.

What is the difference between response time and restoration time?
Response time is how fast the vendor starts working on the problem. Restoration time is how fast your network is working again. Ask for both in the contract.
Should an AMC cover end-of-life equipment?
Yes, if you still run it. EOL equipment is often the most likely to fail, so make sure the AMC names those devices and explains how spares will be provided.
Comprehensive vs non-comprehensive AMC: what is the difference?
A comprehensive AMC includes parts and replacement units; a non-comprehensive AMC covers labour and support only, with parts charged separately.
How is a network AMC priced?
Usually per device, based on device type, age, quantity and the response times required. Older and critical devices cost more to cover.
