Cisco Catalyst 2960-X end of life: what now?
The 2960-X is one of the most widely installed access switches in India. Cisco no longer sells it, so here are your options, from keeping it running to replacing it.
Cisco has announced end-of-sale for the Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR series, and support for them is being wound down. Check Cisco's end-of-life bulletin for the exact milestone dates for your part numbers. In practice, thousands of these switches are still doing their job well in offices, schools and government buildings, and there is no need to rip them all out at once.
Option 1: keep the switches you have and hold tested spares, so a failure means a quick swap rather than downtime. Option 2: expand or replace like-for-like with tested refurbished 2960-X units (for example WS-C2960X-48FPD-L or WS-C2960X-24PS-L), which keeps your configuration, stacking and spares consistent. Option 3: move to the Cisco Catalyst 9200 series, the current access switch, which supports stacking and modern features but needs a Cisco DNA subscription when bought new.
Most of our customers combine all three: keep the healthy 2960-X switches under AMC, use refurbished units to fill gaps, and introduce Catalyst 9200 switches at sites that need new capabilities or longer OEM support.

Questions
Common questions
Is the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X end of life?
Yes. Cisco has announced end-of-sale for the Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR series. Refer to Cisco's end-of-life bulletin for the exact end-of-support dates of each part number.
What replaces the Cisco 2960-X?
The Cisco Catalyst 9200 / 9200L series is the direct successor for access switching.
Can I still buy a 2960-X switch?
Yes, as tested refurbished units. Sutej Networks supplies 2960-X and 2960-XR switches in Delhi with testing and AMC support.
Can 2960-X and Catalyst 9200 switches work in the same network?
Yes. They interoperate over standard Ethernet, VLANs and trunking, so you can replace switches gradually. They cannot be stacked together.
Should I keep my 2960-X switches or replace them?
If they are healthy, configured securely and covered by spares or AMC, keeping them is usually the most cost-effective choice. Replace first where you need new features, higher uplink speeds or OEM support.
